July

During July we took some family down the Portage River. The raft wasn't big enough so some of them got bumped to the canoe.


A niece and a sister-in-law went to the matanuska glacier and got to go trekking with a guide and everything.


We filled the freezer with salmon while dipnetting. Yeah, you pretty much stand in the water with a five foot, long handled net until a sockeye swims into it.

Aunt Lauren spent about a month with us while her husband commercial fished salmon in the cook inlet. The boys didn't complain one bit.

While the Hanceys were here we got in a woodworking project. While the bowl didn't turn out as nice as anything the eldest Hancey (Grandpa Spencer) has made, we had a good time.

the Dog Days of Summer
Mason wanted to try fishing for king salmon. Next year we'll make a more sincere effort.

When the dog days of summer roll around, you gotta spend some time by the water.

Speaking of the dog days of summer, why not act like a dog?

In May, Mason graduated kindergarten.

He got to hold a walrus skull at the Matanuska Glacier.
Then Christina's parents came to visit and we took them around quite a bit of southcentral Alaska.

In April we finished a couple of house projects - bannister and the boys closet.




Therefore, in May I took a trip for pike.

In march, as previously noted, we went to the ice festival. I managed a fishing trip to the kenai (questionable sanity) - on the way we drove past sea ice up on the bank and floated a few miles of the kenai river in a canoe, with a bike as a shuttle vehicle. Cold, but good, day on the water with Lior.




Tate enjoyed an Easter egg hunt.


We also went to the scout-o-rama and christina got to try out an old fashioned ferris wheel. Then Mason tried out a new haircut, or maybe it was a look into the future.

I'll try and backdate a few highlights of the last seven or eight months. For now, we went skating last week.
